Local Tour

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Did some touring in the IP today. Pretty incredible snow considering how hard it’s blowing up high. Down in the trees the snow was great – five inches of new fluff on a pretty decent base. We followed one set of tracks part way in, then broke trail up to treeline for some beautiful protected tree skiing. The conditions were a nice surprise today as was bumping into a few friends at the trailhead who I haven’t seen in a while.

Looking back to look ahead

2007 was quite the year filled with ups and downs. There was some good riding, considering we had a new born join the household. It was also the first full year of living in our new home ever so close to excellent trails. Proximity is everything when you’re dealing with a 6 month old and a 4 year old. Being able to sneak out the back door for an hour ride has been critical. Here’s some of this past years riding highlights.

Kokopelli Trail (again) – An entirely off the couch effort after a winter/spring full of baby and travel. In 2008 the ride will be a single speed adventure.img_3061.jpg

Spring non riding – the proper way to transport your kids, spotted on Holbox Island_dsc0178.jpg

Lyons Fat Tire Fest – riding with 60 of your best friends

Firecracker 50 in Breckenridge – I did manage to squeak in one race. Teamed up with Scott for team single speed. First ever one speed race for me. Rigid at the time, my bike now has a squishy fork. 2008 races will be of the singlespeed variety – too much fun! fc502.jpg

Monarch Crest Trail – finally got to do this ride with my late friend Chuck Tanguay. Every ride with Chuck was an adventure!

Fall Riding – Wyoming, Colorado, we had a beautiful fall season.

Winter Riding – Where we’re at now. It’s -2 degrees outside as I write this, brrrr. The new cross bike is gonna fill the winter riding fix though.img_4414.jpg
