Contrast

Yesterday was a very different day than today. But being back home has it’s advantages - breakfast from the kids and some nice summer skiing. Today was supposed to be a long Fathers Day ride, but as I stumbled around in a state of jet lag, procrastinating riding, an alternate plan was hatched - skiing. After a noon “snowboarder” start, we were relegated to some less committing lines as the afternoon’s thunder clouds built up. After some hiking and aimless bumbling up above tree line, we finally got in some turns. What a difference a day makes…

Silverton

This past weekend started off with some skiing Friday morning at Eldora, then progressed to Silverton for the remainder. The conditions were the full spectrum - spring corn conditions Saturday to freezing white outs on Sunday. Both days were great, involving a good amount of hiking to some lines that were a bit more off the beaten path. It was my second time skiing here and a reminder that the quality and variety of terrain is just awesome. I’ve got the bug, there’s still a few more weeks to get back down there before spring fully sets in…

Cleaning out the garage

The addition of a new pair of skis to the family has necessitated cleaning out the old skis and pairing down to just two sets of tele skis (there still some other touring, skate skis, etc). Before getting rid of some of these classics I thought it would be worth reflecting on the funny progression skis have taken over 18 years of tele skiing.

Steamboat didn’t suck…

We headed up to Steamboat Thursday afternoon. After a hairy drive through some snowy weather we arrived. Friday brought lots of new snow and some funky windblown conditions in areas. After a little searching the goods were found!

Local Tour

Did some touring in the IP today. Pretty incredible snow considering how hard it’s blowing up high. Down in the trees the snow was great - five inches of new fluff on a pretty decent base. We followed one set of tracks part way in, then broke trail up to treeline for some beautiful protected tree skiing. The conditions were a nice surprise today as was bumping into a few friends at the trailhead who I haven’t seen in a while.
